Mixing songs

I find it interesting how lately when I mix songs I go through and listen without the meters when I edit and then when I run through the song to make sure the sound isn't too high I don't go over the levels that are too high. It's like my body memorizes the levels of sound, yet I couldn't tell you the difference if I actually sat there and listened to the differences in db lol.
